The 2022-23 Fleet Read-A-Thon will take place in February 2023.
The Read-a-thon is a great way to support your school while instilling a love of learning in your kids. Each student pledges to read a certain number of books per week and parents gather financial pledges from friends and family. The student and class who logs the greatest number of hours reading wins a special prize! This is the PTA's biggest fundraiser. Funds raised will directly support our teachers and students, as well as fund special events and educational enrichment activities for our students.
The Read-A-Thon is a 10-day period (February 2 - February 12) where we encourage Fleet students to read as much as possible! Each student is given a reading log and asked to record how much they read each day outside of school. Please help your student(s) fill out their reading log(s) each day and send it back to school on Monday, February 13. Reading logs will be sent home in students' backpacks on January 25.
We hope that all students will set a goal and challenge themselves to read as much as they can. Each student who turns in their reading log will be recognized as a proud member of our Reading Fleet!
Fun prizes will be given for all fundraisers, the top fundraisers and the class that reads the most in each grade level!
The Read-A-Thon is also a great fundraiser for our school. We ask parents to raise support in the form of pledges. To make fundraising easier, we are using the website PledgeStar, which enables you to easily invite friends and family members to support your student. (See the FAQs below on how to create a fundraising page). All the money goes back to the Fleet PTA, which is a 501c3 non-profit, and is tax deductible. Fundraising is encouraged but not required.
Students earn prizes if their total pledges reach the $25, $50, $100, $200, $300, $400 or $500 level. All money is due by February 13 to be eligible for fundraising prizes.

Read-A-Thon Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is the Read-A-Thon? Why do we do this?
Read-A-Thon is one of two main PTA fundraisers. We ask students to read as much as they can during this time and to ask others to support them. Last year we raised about $16,000; money that goes directly to support our school. It also gets our students excited about reading!
How do we participate?
First, encourage your student(s) to read as much as possible. Fill out the reading log each day, and tally your minutes. Second, create your fundraising page. Students earn prizes both for reading and for fundraising.
What’s the Reading Fleet?
All students who turn in a reading log are proud members of our Reading Fleet and will get a prize! We also recognize the top readers in each grade. And, there is a very special prize for the top overall reader!
What are key dates?
Packets go home January 25. Reading dates are February 2 - 12. Logs are due February 13. Pledges are due by February 13. Prizes will be distributed shortly after.
